1848

writerPenelope Dimond

At the height of the revolution in France in 1848 George Sand wrote "I spent nights without sleeping, days without sitting down. I am crazy, I am drunk, I am happy to fall asleep in the mire and wake up in heaaven. The Republic has been won."

A few months later she wrote "I am plunged into despair. We were not ready for the Republic. The people were not with us."

This play offers a glimpse into the lives of those caught up in the momentous events then sweeping across Europe. It was first staged in 2014 by The New Factory of the Eccentric Actor at Conway Hall, Rd Lion Square with a cast of 74.
