In the Shadows

In the Shadows

writerDavid Gray

editorJohn Heath-Stubbs

David Gray was the eldest son of a Scottish handloom weaver of Merkland, near Kirkintilloch. ‘In the Shadows is a sonnet sequence from ‘The Luggie and Other Poems’ which appeared in 1862, shortly after his death from tuberculosis at the age of 23. It is a unique document, revealing a young man with promise of being a fine poet, courageously wrestling with the prospect of death.

This book was edited by John Heath-Stubbs and contains and introductory essay by him.
